Upon hearing the name "Hantu Balik Pagi", almost everybody in USM would be able to immediately associate that nickname with the students of Housing, Building and Planning, whose acronyms is HBP. Staying up till dawn breaks at the studio is probably a normal predicament in the life of HBP students. I admit in the beginning, I, myself was quite reluctant and uncomfortable to be staying up till the wee hours in the morning at studio in order to complete my studio works. I still prefer the comfort of my room in comparison to the studio. But all that changed as time passed by. Starting from the project where we need to create a comfortable L-shaped chair and table right to the the last project which was the Live Performance, the once 'hated' studio had become a part of my life as a student in USM.
Truth be told, I had learnt a great deal during all of my studio sessions. RUS104 had basically taught me not only the knowledge needed to fulfill the subject requirements, but also the value of friendship in life. Through this subject, I had learnt to make something out of nothing. The determination and passion in oneself is needed to succeed in whatever we do. However, all of that should come hand in hand with the humble feeling in ourselves. Bearing in mind that we are still in the learning process and to never look down on those who are not on the same level as us. This coursework had really enlighten and toughen me in many ways. I also had made many friends from different courses.
It taught me the value of leaderships through Project 6, where I was elected as the group's leader. Me, who always shy away from anything that requires any kind of extra effort from my behalf. It really brings out the best of me. After reading an email sent by Dr. Mazran that informed us about a group work consisting of all the courses, I admit that I had freaked out a little bit. This is because I am not really good with working with people which whom I have no idea what their working styles are going to be. "Will we be able to work together as a team?" "Will I fit in with them?" "What if I can't work with them?" "What if they don't like me?". Those are the thoughts that had plagued my mind throughout the day. My feelings worsens as the group names were revealed. None of the people listed as my group mates were familiar. But at the end of the project, I felt sad because I had grown attached to all of my group mates and not being able to be in the same group anymore just seems depressing to me.
Lastly, I am very thankful to ALL of the studiomasters involved in cultivating the talents in each and everyone of us. Thousands of gratitude to Dr Mazran who had been sending us emails every time before our studio sessions informing us of things related to the studio, to Dr Erna, Dr Radzi, Dr Shardy, Dr Zul and Dr Hanizun who are in charged of the CM students and to all studiomasters as a whole. THANK YOU!
